No Nintendo at TGS, Holding Own Presser Instead
September 17, 2008, 02:09 PM by M. Kava
For everybody who forgot, Nintendo won't be at this year's Toyko Game Show. No big shocker there. Nintendo must just not like TGS that much. Luckily though, Nintendo does like to hold their own press events so on October 2nd, there will be a Ninty presser. No TGS showing but got their own event going down. Good deal. Bad thing: Nintendo is still not sure what they are going to be showing at their presser. They reported to the magazine, Edge, that they don't know what they are showing, for what, and for who. Personally, I'm hoping for some information on the next Wii Zelda and Wii Mario, even if that is unreasonable and unlikely. Either way, some nice information on some of their bigger projects would be nice... especially stuff that has not been talked about already. No Wii Music, no Wii Sports Resort, no Animal Crossing, no Brain Age something please. A little core gamer titles, eh? Eh, Ninty? Serve up your core and extremely loyal gamers that allowed you to get to where you are today? Eh?Anyways, Nintendo presser on October 2nd, 2008, and no showing at TGS, also in October. Happy 9th Birthday to the Sega Dreamcast
September 09, 2008, 03:40 PM by M. Kava
Today the Sega Dreamcast celebrates its ninth birthday as a market failure but as a fan success. When the Dreamcast was around a year old, I purchased mine. It was in a lovely bundle with Sonic Adventure and Sonic Shuffle (two of my favorite games on any Sega console, even through their flaws) and certainly a great purchase in my mind. It was but months before that the Dreamcast had crept into my heart to find a warm cozy place to stay for many years. It still resides there today, even after the utter horrible failure of the console in the gaming market (after all, Sega got out of the hardware market after the Dreamcast). The Sega Dreamcast brought us a nice array of games that ranged from awesome to just plain weird. To start off with, there was Sonic Adventure, the only good 3D Sonic game in recent years. And then the original Soul Caliber, a game that now as lost its way but was still awesome back in the early years. Another two great fighting games were Power Stone and the original Shenmue. And who could forget Crazy Taxi, a quirky yet horribly entertaining game about driving a taxi that could hop five feet in the air on command. And weirder yet, Seaman, the game that brought Leonard Nimoy's soothing voice to our home consoles but weird'd us the f*** out with the extremely personal questions of the Seaman and everything else that was just plain off in the game. That Seaman was just plain creeeeepy. And there's no forgetting the VMU. A memory unit with a small monochrome screen on it that you could even put games on to play with the small d-pad and A/B buttons, even if the meant replacing the battery much faster in the memory unit. I'm afraid I wasted quite a few batteries on the Power Stone mini-games during my early high school career. So today, dust off the ol' Dreamcast and think back on all the fond memories of yesteryear when the console was in its prime. And please do forget its failure that lead to the loss of Sega as a hardware designer. Remember the great games and fun times that were had. Let your hands grace the wonderful controller that became the inspiration for the Xbox and later much improved Xbox 360 controllers. Here's to the good memories. Thanks Dreamcast. Bump Post
August 22, 2008, 02:22 AM by M. Kava
Just bumping a post here as nothing of major significance has happened in the world of Nintendo or Nintendo Freaks recently. Thus the reason for the complete utter lack of updates and posts. Just posting to get the Relay For Life 2008 post out of the 'latest news post' spot and to show that, in fact, we are still alive. I'll delete this when there is actually a reason to post something. Later folks. #endit
Relay For Life 2008 This Friday
Just another reminder that this Friday is Relay For Life. It's at YMCA West in Fargo (on 42nd Street) and as far as I know it starts at 6pm or 7pm (the site is horrible so there is a complete and utter lack of completeness and information). If you are planning on attending, please RSVP in the following thread as well as check out the details that are available there. [Relay For Life 2008]
Freaky Forums Renovation Complete, For Now
I've completed the work that I wanted to do on the forums for this time around. Nothing to do with a new theme, like I had hoped might be possible, but instead more backend additions along with some reorganization. Oh, and some new rules for the forums as well. Be sure to give them a look, as they go into effect this Friday. Please direct all comments, issues, and other such speak to the new Rules Discussion board as well. Thanks for the waiting patiently while I did my work. Didn't mean to take the entire weekend and obviously didn't intend on being up at 6am posting this message either. Anyways, thats all the work that I have left in me for now. Please hit up the suggestion boards as well, I'd like to hear what you all think of what has been done and see if anything needs to be changed or at least debated. Cheers folks and enjoy the hopefully-better forums.
